Zero percent credit cards are referring to the introductory offer you may find with some credit cards. There are two distinct types of credit cards in this category. On this page we have broken down information regarding the zero percent credit cards for you, as well as supplying you with the information needed to compare the different cards.
The first type of zero percent credit cards are balance transfer deals. These credit cards offer a zero percent annual rate for a certain period of time. Normally the deal lasts between 6 and 9 months on the balance transfers. How they work is that you will not be charged interest during that introductory period. After that period is over you can expect to be charged the average interest rate on the card. For example First Active is a balance transfer credit card with zero percent interest. This deal will last for 9 months. After the 9 months is over you will be charged 12.9 percent annual percentage rate. This is the same rate as the purchase APR. At the moment there is no card available on the Irish market that has no interest for the life of the card. In fact that is unheard of anywhere, except in the UK with the American Express Business card with an annual fee rather than interest.
The point is, the zero percent cards will have a specific term at that rate and then it will be over. The second type of zero percent credit cards are the purchase cards. A purchase card offers zero percent for 3 to 9 months on average. There are very few credit cards with purchase rates at 0 percent for 12 months. The Bank of Ireland Credit Card is an example of a 0 percent purchase credit card. It has a balance transfer introductory rate of 2.9 percent for 12 months. The purchase rate is 0 percent for 6 months. At the end of six months you will be paying 14.9 percent.
