Credit Cards with ID’s
A question was recently raised regarding credit cards and whether you should either carry your ID or have the company place your photo on the actual card. This is not a new question though.
Back at the beginning of the new millennium, many of the credit card companies were offering credit cards with their picture on the face of the card to help eliminate the need for the retail employees to ask for an ID to match you to the credit card. To a great degree this method worked. Several consumers thought their photo on their cards was a good idea. However, we hear less and less about the photo and credit card marriage.
Instead we are still being asked for our ID’s to compare signatures and photo to the card. The whole premise of pictures on the cards or even asking for ID is to prevent fraud from occurring, but it doesn’t always. Shops have been infiltrated by fraudsters who place incorrect machines on the counter for the credit card details to be stolen. Furthermore more than half of the employees in a retail store feel uncomfortable asking for ID and negate this task. So this means consumers must show their ID cards whether the clerk asks for them or not.
