MBNA Buy and Fly Credit Card

Credit cards may differ in the rewards that are offered, but there are some definite perks out there.  If you need a card to help you earn points to fly then the MBNA Buy and Fly Credit Card may be just the ticket.  In this review we are going to look at the card for the benefits it offers.  Keep in mind that not every card will be for you.  There could be some great benefits with this card, but that doesn’t always make it right for everyone.

• The first thing I noticed with this card is the 1.9 percent annual percentage rate on the balance transfer.  This is an introductory offer that lasts for six months from the date the account is opened.  There is also a handling fee for the balance transfer.  The handling fee can be 1.50 percent to 3 percent.
• The annual percentage rate on purchases and after the balance transfer introductory offer is over will be 14.9 percent.  This rate is available to those who qualify and is subject to the credit application approval.  While 14.9 percent is a lower rate than most cards on the market around the world, it is a standard variable rate.  Your credit situation and income will determine the interest rate you will be charged.  If you qualify for the terms of the 14.9 percent then you will be offered that rate.  However, most do not.  You need good to excellent credit and the income to support the credit card. 
• There is security fraud protection offered with the card.
• You can earn up to 58 days of free interest if you pay your card on time and the entire balance each month.
• They offer online account services such as direct debit to help you pay the account on time.  This is no different than other banks or cards on the market.
• No annual fee.  They do have a government charge on cards of 30 Euros that is annual though.

Credit Card companies tend to have the same basic offers no matter what bank you are going with.  The choice can be determined in the rewards.  With the buy and fly credit card there are flight rewards that you can earn.  When you spend money on the credit card you will earn a certain amount of points per purchase.  Those points can be redeemed for travel with specific airlines and travel partners.  For every ten Euros you spend you will earn one travel point.  Depending on the destination you travel to you may need 500 or up to 13,500 points.  To fly in the UK there is a minimum point amount needed.  For flights that are further from Ireland you will need more points.

It will also depend on the origin city as well.  The points listed above are based on flights from Dublin and may change.  The point is if you want to earn points for money you spend this can be a good card, but to be effective you would need to use the card for several purchases and pay off the balance every month.
