The EBS member credit card is a member credit card. It is not considered a card for cardholders. It really is about semantics, but they have some great perks for having an EBS membership card through MBNA. In this review we are looking at a variety of benefits and comparing them to help you understand why we might think this card worthy of having.
- The first thing I noticed about this card is the annual percentage rate. They offer a 10.9 percent variable rate to members. This will depend on your credit history. They do reserve the right to decline the card application or increase the APR based on risk. Every card has that option. The good news is you start at 10.9 percent and it can go up from there. The current average is 16.9 percent. The rate is valid on purchases, balance transfers, and cheques.
- They offer the cheques at the same rate so that you can pay bills or make other purchases. The cheques can be expensive overall, so they are typically not something you want to use for bills especially if you will be paying the interest on the amount.
- They have 24 hour customer service. Again this is standard with all companies.
- If you pay your balance on time and in full every month you get 58 days of free interest. This is again a new option and very typical throughout MBNA and other companies.
- The card has a limit that you can set. They offer a limit, but if it is too high you can ask for it to be reduced. According to the information found they want the card to fit your lifestyle.
- There is credit card fraud protection as per the consumer credit act. You just need to make the company aware of the fraud charges to have them removed and investigated.
- This card uses the new chip and pin system. That means you have more security on the card than the magnetic strips still being offered by other companies. It is hard for the criminal element to steal at this time.
- There is free purchase protection insurance for 63 to 1300 Euros. This isn’t generally offered for free with other cards.
- There is also no annual fee, just the government tax charge per annum.
-
The EBS member card doesn’t offer rewards programmes, but the lower interest rate can be very helpful for purchases and it is one of the lowest options on the market. It is worth considering for the annual percentage rate if you will qualify. The other benefits are too typical and that leaves nothing special going on with the card. Overall it is a good card to have in your wallet, but not the best depending on your needs. Cards that donate to charity, offer flight miles, or other benefits could be more up your alley. This review has found the card to be worth consideration.
