The MBNA Kings Inn Credit Card will offer you several of the same benefits as other cards. The good news is this card does have something other MBNA cards don’t have. The King’s Inns Visa card is a reward card for members and students.
Here is how it works:
- When the account is opened a contribution to the King’s Inns will be made by MBNA. Each time you purchase something with the card MBNA will donate to the King’s Inn. The funds are going to go to support teaching, research, and other initiatives. Like most of the MBNA rewards cards there is no cost to you for the contributions. Just by having the card you get to donate to the fund. If you feel like teachers or research areas need a little help then this card can be that for you.
- Credit cards aren’t for everyone and there are specific cards that are better for others. This particular card does have a specific reward. If you don’t want to contribute to the teaching and research then you might find something along the lines that you are interested in. The card does have other benefits, but again they are pretty standard to MBNA. Let’s have a look at those.
- MBNA offers a balance transfer option of 1.9 percent APR for six months. This balance transfer option is good from the date the account opened. You must pay on time and not go over your credit limit to keep this rate. There are some cards offering zero percent interest for 12 months on balance transfer cards, however they don’t offer donations to charity in most cases or even this specific option. The 1.9 percent is a good rate especially if you have been paying anything more than that for the last few months. The offer is only good if you don’t have an account with MBNA through any other card.
- After the balance transfer rate is over you will be paying 14.9 percent APR. This is also the purchase rate. The purchase rate is comparative to other cards on the market. It is one of the better rates as well. You must qualify for the rate by having the appropriate credit history and income. If you don’t meet the qualifications you could have a higher rate. The rate is also variable so it will change over time.
- They offer free travel accident insurance for up to 127,000 Euros. If you travel a lot this is a good perk.
- They protect against fraud.
- You can also earn 58 days interest free on your purchases if you pay the account balance in full and on time each month.
As you can see the benefits are pretty similar to other cards through MBNA. The difference comes through the charity organisation that you will be supporting that won’t cost you a thing. MBNA has to make the donation based on your purchase amount. That’s pretty good for a card.
